By March 2024, the fighting that began in April 2023 in Sudan had drove over 1.6 million people out of the country and over 1.7 million into five neighboring countries: South Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt, Chad, the Central African Republic (CAR), and Ethiopia. The request for $1.4 billion in the 2024 Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRRP) for the Sudan disaster contains $103 million for educational activities. The plan is intended to assist 2.7 million people, including host populations, returnees, refugees, and residents of other countries.Since the beginning of the conflict, Sudanese asylum seekers have been allowed entry into the CAR and Chad.
